Brussels, 25/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 28 February, the EU Troika - composed of Council President Jean Asselborn, High Representative for CFSP Javier Solana and External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner - will be meeting Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Luxembourg. Discussions will focus on the state of progress in talks with a view to adopting roadmaps (probably during the EU/Russia summit on 10 May) for the creation of the four EU/Russia common “spaces”, but also on international policy issues such as the fight against terrorism and the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Another theme will be the new consultation body on human rights and minority rights that the EU and Russia decided to set up (in November 2004 during the last EU/Russia summit in The Hague: see EUROPE of 26 November, pp.4/5). The new consultations will be launched on 1 March during a first meeting in Luxembourg at the level of experts. On this occasion, it will no doubt be question of the situation of the Russian-speaking minority in the Baltic States (a subject that Moscow is extremely keen to put back on the discussion table), but also the situation of human rights in Russia and especially in Chechnya, a European Commission spokesperson said on Friday.
