Brussels, 15/02/2005 (Agence Europe) - Examination under the EU Merger Regulation of the proposed acquisition of the North Rhine-Westphalian network cable operator 'Ish' by the Hessian cable operator 'Iesy' will be undertaken by the German competition authorities. Last year the Commission referred the case involving the German cable networks and KDG's acquisition of Ish (EUROPE 10 June 2004). The Bundeskartellamt requested that the case be referred to it, as the effects of the merger were limited to Germany and the Commission concluded that the conditions for a referral had been met. The two companies provide cable television services via the old Deutsche Telekom network. The Commission takes no view on whether the merger will actually harm competition, as that decision, is the role of the German authorities.
