Work programme for first half 2005

Brussels, 12/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - With a view to the first part of the 51st session of the Western European Union Assembly (WEU), to be held from 13 to 15 June in Paris, several parliamentarians have been entrusted with the task of drawing up the following reports: - implementation of European security strategy by German Social Democrat Gerd Höfer; - security cooperation between the EU and its close neighbours to the East, by French Socialist Jean-Pierre Masseret and Turkish Socialist Abdülkadir Ates; - developments in the Wider Middle East by French Socialist Josette Durieu (this report should above all cover Iran and the European attitude towards the American concept of a "Wider Middle East"); - development of ESDP and the global objective 2010 by Greek Socialist Konstantinos Vrettos; - defence aspects in the fight against international terrorism by Spanish Conservative Ignacio Cosido; - centred network operations: European capabilities by German Social Democrat Klaus Werner Jonas; - the future of European maritime and land defence industries by Spanish Socialist Elvira Cortajarena; - the European technology acquisition programme by British Labour member Edward O'Hara; - mastering armaments and non-proliferation: verification means by French UMP member Jean-Guy Branger; - ratification of the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe by British Liberal Lord Russell-Johnston; - and the development of interparliamentary cooperation in South East Europe by Italian Socialist Milos Budin. Two other reports (by Ms Lucyga) cover budgetary issues and a last report (by Mr Branger) is on procedural amendments.
