Strasbourg, 11/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - The president of the European Parliament has congratulated Mahmoud Abbas, elected on Sunday as president of the Palestinian Authority. He pointed out that the voters had given a very clear mandate to Yasser Arafat's successor. Mr Borrell affirmed that, "the challenges awaiting him are immense. A unique occasion is on offer for relaunching the peace process and Mahmoud Abbas has demonstrated what his intention is. I hope that the new Israeli government...
