16/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - During a press conference in Strasbourg on Tuesday evening, Front national MEP Jean-Marie Le Pen criticised the governments of the Union, which had, he said, given in to the pressures of George Bush by agreeing to the idea of opening accession negotiations with Turkey. Le Pen said that the assertion that accession would only be a reality based on the "Greek calendar" was just subterfuge. He also attacked the "hypocritical" policy of Jacques Chirac on Greece, "the very fibres of which are those of a European country, even if their leaders are brainless" (how can the sons of Ulysses fail to notice that their country is going to be "submerged" by "legal" immigration from a country that is ten times as big as theirs?, asked Le Pen. Addressing the European Parliament, which he said had gone beyond its role, he asked how it was going to defend accession at the Turkish parliament before the vote at the EP.
