Brussels, 22/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday US and EU Representative examined the progress of negotiations on concluding an aviation agreement between the two parties. At this stage this will consist of a technical meeting, as political negotiations have been sidelined due to the US elections and will only start up again once the new US government is set up.
During the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed their desire to reach an agreement that would be satisfactory to all those concerned.
The European Commission will be presenting the results of these “Aviation” working group discussions at the Council when it meets on 25 October, as well as to Directors General of civil aviation on 28 October in The Hague.
In the next few weeks it will continue its consultations with Member States and all interested parties: the airlines in the first row, while remaining in contact with the Americans with a view to the next discussions.
