06/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - Reacting to the hearing before the European Parliament of Commissioner-designate for Hungary, who should inherit the energy portfolio within the Barroso Commission (see EUROPE of 2 October, p.10), the EREC (European Renewable Energy Council) considers in a press release that Laslo Kovacs was too hasty when supporting the formula of a European green certificate to encourage energy production from renewable energy sources. EREC calls on Mr Kovacs to wait before taking a stance in favour of any one option, the report from the European Commission on assessment of the different renewable energy promoting mechanisms being expected for October 2005 at the latest.
