Commission wants Council to allow France to levy regional fuel tax

Brussels, 15/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has suggested that the Council give authorisation to France to apply varying levels of fuel tax (on diesel and lead-free petrol) in different regions. As part of a decentralisation programme, France is planning to give regional councils the power to decide to cut TIPP rates (taxe interieure sur les produits petroliers). The tax cuts should not exceed 3.54 euros per hectolitre for lead-free petrol and EUR 2.30 for diesel. The...
