Brussels, 09/09/2004 (Agence Europe) - On 16 September the European Parliament is expected to approve proposals on fishing possibilities for EU boats as part of bilateral agreement with Mauritius, Madagascar, Cap Verde (three reports from Phillipe Morillon, France (EPP-ED).
Mauritius: this new protocol for fishing between the EU and the island covers 3 December 2003 to 2 December 2007. Fishing possibilities are as follows: 41 tuna seiners (16 boats for France, 22 Spanish, 7 Portuguese and licences for the equivalent of 25 gross tonnage per month, on average annually, for fishing line boats. EU compensation to third countries: EUR 487,500 annually.
Madagascar: new protocol - 1 January 2004 - 31 December 2006 fishing rights for 40 tuna seiners (7 French, 22 Spanish, 2 Italian) and 40 surface longliners (24 Spanish 10 French and 6 Portuguese). EU compensation EUR 825,000 annually for European fishing rights; 11,000 tonnes of tuna per year.
Cap Verde: the protocol is extended by a year 1 July 2004 - 30 June 2005 (EUROPE 29 October). Fishing rights shared out a bit differently: tuna seiners: 19 French, 18 Spanish); tuna pole and line vessels (6 French, 10 Spanish and 2 Portuguese); surface longliners (52 Spanish, 10 Portuguese); deep-sea longliners: gross tonnage per month on average annually for PORTUGAL.
