Commission wants to ensure France's Vivendi deal respects EU competition rules

Brussels, 27/08/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has asked the French authorities for details of the tax agreement between the French state and Vivendi. Tax breaks are authorised is they are accessible to all French multinationals, explained Tilman Lueder, spokesperson to Mario Monti, the European Commissioner for Competition, adding that there were no formal problems for the Vivendi deal, but it was necessary to ensure the deal did not involve 'discretionary elements'.
