France ruled against for "gold" and "gold alloy" denomination

Luxembourg, 08/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Court of Justice has ruled against the French general code of taxation (article 552a), which reserves the denomination "gold" for articles of a fineness of 750 parts per thousand (18 carat), and the denomination "gold alloy" for articles of a fineness of 375 or 585 parts per thousand (9 and 14 carat respectively).

The denomination "gold alloy" is less attractive to consumers than "gold", say the European judges. The obligation to sell imported...
