Brussels, 08/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - On 6 July, the European Commission adopted a regulation defining the conditions and modalities for granting Community aid for private storage of certain kinds of cheese during the 2004/2005 marketing year. The aid is granted for storable cheeses (16,000 tonnes for France, 1,000 tonnes for Germany, 900 tonnes for Ireland, 1,700 tonnes for Austria and as much for Finland and Sweden, 3,000 tonnes for Poland, 200 tonnes for Slovenia, 700 tonnes for Lithuania, 500 tonnes for Latvia, 300 tonnes for Hungary); the pecorino romano cheeses (19,000 tonnes) and the kefalotyri and kasseri cheeses (2,500 tonnes). Aid amounts to: 10 euros per tonnes for fixed costs, 0.25 euro per tonne and per day of storage for storage costs and, for the financial costs per day of storage, 0.23 euros per tonne for storable cheeses, 0.28 euros per tonne for pecorino romano cheeses and 0.39 euros per tonne for kefalotyri and kasseri cheeses.
