Verheugen confirms Germany's wish for Commissioner with "strong" economic portfolio

Brussels, 05/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - Commissioner Günter Verheugen (enlargement), who will also be the German representative in the next European Commission and for whom, it is known, Chancellor Gerhard Schröder wants an "important economic portfolio", said in an interview with Welt am Sonntag that economic growth and employment must be the EU's "absolute priorities".
