Chirac for opening negotiations in December if Commission proposes - French President denounces George Bush's involvement in this case

Istanbul, 28/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - On Monday President Chirac was very positive in Istanbul about prospects for Turkey's joining the EU. However, he did not rule out that opening the accession negotiations would be decided in December. Welcoming the "considerable effort turkey had made over "recent years, he declared that if the Commission report, expected in October, was in favour, it would be up to the summit to decide on what form the negotiations took with Ankara.
