AEGEE welcomes adoption of European constitution

Brussels, 28/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Association des Etats Généraux des étudiants de l'Europe (AEGEE) is delighted at the adoption of the European Constitution. In a press release, the AEGEE is happy that the Constitution's preamble reflects its own vision of Europe and is sure that while cherishing diversity and respecting the individual characteristics of European regions, it will be possible to find principles based on our cultural and historical heritage that will unite and guide us in our efforts to strengthen European awareness.

AEGEE points out that it is actively involved in the Student Convention, debating the future of Europe and the European Constitution. AEGEE-Europe President, Nicola Rega, said they would now need to work to give the Constitution life and make it a starting block for achieving their vision of Europe. AEGEE now wants the Constitution to be rapidly endorsed by Member States using procedures that involve citizens to the greatest extent possible. AEGEE notes that it has faith in Europe as a symbol of freedom and democracy, respecting human rights and the rule of law.
