AWACS, NRBC battalion and NATO maritime surveillance for security at Olympic Games

Brussels, 25/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - NATO's Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer announced on Thursday that, yesterday, NATO formally accepted Greece's request for assistance for the Olympic Games. In addition to the surveillance of airspace by several AWACS, which had already been decided, NATO is to send a specialised battalion to Greece as an emergency response to NRBC (nuclear, radiological, bacteriological or chemical) attack.
