Brussels, 25/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - In a press release, Pasqualina Napoletano, President of the Democratici di sinistra delegation to the Socialist group of the European Parliament, has welcomed the candidacy of Spanish socialist Josep Borrell, as announced by the POSE, who is to stand as socialist candidate for the Presidency of the European Parliament. Ms Napoletano feels that Mr Borrell's character "fully corresponds" to the ideal profile the Italian members of the Socialist group feel the future EP President should possess (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.7). As a member of the European Constitution, Josep Borrell showed his "strong commitment" to the Constitution, and he comes from a country which "thanks to its new government, made a decisive contribution" to the adoption of the Constitution, says Ms Napoletano.
