Brussels, 23/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - Children are often the first to suffer illness caused by poor environmental conditions. In Budapest on 23-25 June 2004, Health and Environment Ministers of the 52 Member States in the European Region of the World Health Organisation will adopt an Action Plan - the Children's Environment and Health Action Plan for Europe (CEHAPE) - containing goals such as providing safe water and sanitation, preventing accidents and injuries and preventing and reducing respiratory disease from air pollution. The Commission will contribute to the Budapest conference with its recently adopted Environment and Health Action Plan (EUROPE 10 June p 14).
