Brussels, 27/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - The mid term review of the Lisbon strategy, which has stagnated a little, should determine the best way for reaching the objectives set out in Lisbon in march 200, taking into account, in particular, the effect of enlargement. The European Council last March therefore called on the Commission to set up a high level group chaired by former Dutch Prime Minister Wim Kok (who had chaired the Employment Task Force) baptised the "High Level Group on the Lisbon Strategy (EUROPE 23 April p 8). The High Level Group, focuses on the whole of the Lisbon Strategy and will hold its first meeting on 6 May in Brussels. The meeting will take place in two parts: the first on setting out how the group will work, methods and time table for work. The group will meet once a month; then, a detailed discussion on the mid term review of the Lisbon strategy in keeping with the conclusions of the 2004 Spring Summit (EUROPE Document No. 2367 30 March). The group will present its reflections in total independence, formulating criticism of the Lisbon strategy and requesting amendments if necessary.
