Uno Lohmus and Küllike Jürimäe to be two future Estonian judges

Luxembourg, 07/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - The two Estonian judges nominated respectively for judge at the European Court of Justice and judge at the Court of First Instance in the EU are Uno Lohmus and Küllike Jürimäe.

Born in 1952, Uno Lohmus holds a Diploma in Law from the University of Tartu and obtained a PhD (Law) from Leningrad University, with his Doctoral Thesis on Qualifications of complicity in crime. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Estonia since 1998, he was Judge of the European Court of Human Rights 1994-1998. At the same time, he was Human Rights Expert of the Council of Europe missions in Croatia, Ukraine and Georgia and consultant of the working group drafting the Criminal Code. He is also a member of the Estonian section of International Law Association and member of the Council of Europe Consultative Committee of European Judges.

Born in 1962, Küllike Jürimäe holds a Diploma in Law from the University of Tartu and a Masters in Human Rights and Democratisation from the University of Padua. She has been judge of Tallinn Circuit Court of Appeal since 1993.
