Parliament gives green light to intelligent food packaging at first reading

Brussels, 07/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - In its adoption of the report by MEP Astrid Thors (ELDR, Finland) last week, the Parliament has pronounced itself, at first reading in Strasbourg, in favour of changes to Community legislation proposed by the Commission in order to authorise so-called "active" or "intelligent" food packaging within the Union, which aim to improve the quality or the conservation of foodstuffs (see EUROPE of 20 November 2003).
