Brussels, 26/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - During its pre-European Council summit on 25 March in Meise, the European People's Party, presided by Wilfried Martens adopted a resolution insisting on greater EU firmness in the fight against terrorism following the 11 March attacks in Madrid. The resolution affirmed that there would be no "safe haven" for terrorists and that "we refuse the possibility of terrorism to condition any democratic process" in the Union. The EPP is calling on the European Council to develop dialogue between Europe and the "Arab and Muslim world" to encourage moderate forces. Head of government and party leaders adopted a resolution asserting solidarity for the outgoing government of José Maria Aznar, stressing that for 8 years Spain has been on the "path of necessary reforms to guarantee stability, economic progress and the creation of jobs…Spain has been placed in a key position in European and international politics". The resolution also mentions the "gratitude" of EPP leaders for Aznar's work for the party over recent years.
