Council agrees on measures to reduce accidental dolphin and porpoise by-catch

Brussels, 23/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Fisheries Ministers of the Member States of the EU reached agreement by qualified majority in Brussels on Monday evening, on measures to reduce accidental by-catch of dolphins and porpoises in Community waters. Italy and Spain refused to support the compromise text, because they did not agree with the date for the implementation of control measures (on-board observers) being earlier in the Mediterranean than in other Community waters.
