Strasbourg, 12/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - Adopting a resolution on Thursday on preparations for the 25/26 March European Council, the European Parliament formally appealed to heads of state to decide at the Summit to immediately re-launch the Intergovernmental Conference in order to decide before 1 May on the draft Constitutional Treaty prepared by the European Convention without changing the general balance of the draft. In the resolution, adopted by 341 to 78 with 12 abstentions, Parliament invited the Irish Presidency to do its utmost to get the ball rolling again, and urged all Member States to be flexible, warning that without an agreement on the Constitution, the European project would be compromised and the EU would not be able to consider any further enlargements in the future.
