12/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, President of the European Council, received a delegation of the Church and Society Commission of the Conference of European Churches (CEC, which groups 126 Orthodox, Protestant, Anglican and old Catholic churches from all countries of Europe) and of the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Community (COMECE, composed of Catholic bishops of the EU) in Dublin on 11 March. Discussions were mainly on the themes of the Spring Council of 25 and 26 March in Brussels. Members of the delegation, including Mgr Noel Treanor of COMECE, mainly called on the Irish Presidency to place emphasis on social inclusion, the fight against poverty and support to families and to ensure that common immigration and asylum policy ensures dignified treatment of refugees and migrants.
