Brussels, 10/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - Further to the change of majority, the elected Greek Conservative, Costas Caramanlis, has formed his government. In addition to the duties of Prime Minister, Mr Caramanlis takes on the culture portfolio, which will allow him to supervise the latest preparations for the Olympic Games this summer in Athens. The Foreign Affairs portfolio is attributed to Petros Molyviatis (75 years of age), an old hand at Greek diplomacy, who served as ambassador in Moscow. Defence will go to Spilios Spiliotopoulos, a former fighter plane pilot aged 57. A reputed economist, Georges Algoskoufis (48), becomes Minister of the Economy. Two former MEPs become ministers. Nikitas Kaklamanis thus takes on health and social solidarity. Marietta Giannakou, who was also a member of the European Convention, is responsible for national education and religions. She is the only woman minister within the new government but another woman, Anna Psarouda-Benaki, is expected to be Speaker of the Parliament.
