03/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt considers that the European Commission should be composed of one Commissioner per Member State until 2014 but that, after this, it will be necessary to accept a restricted European Commission. During a press conference with Czech Prime Minister Vladimiri Spidla, on Tuesday in Prague, Mr Verhofstadt said, as reported by AFP, that "if the Commission is not restricted after 2014, a directorate will automatically arise" within it. While admitting that it is still necessary to "convince all those who do not agree" to give up having a Commissioner in the future College, Mr Verhofstadt warned: "If we have a Commission of thirty or forty members, what will happen? A limited number of countries, naturally the largest, will come to an agreement upon organising a directorate" within the European Executive.
