02/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - Pat Cox, President of the European Parliament, who met the President of the Turkish Parliament, Bulent Arinc, in Ankara, called upon Turkish officials and the Greek and Turkish communities of Cyprus to seize this "unique" opportunity afforded to them by reunification of the island. According to AFP, Mr Cox told the press that his message was to "have the courage and the wisdom to succeed", although talks on Cyprus, which resumed on 19 February, are still getting nowhere. Pat Cox, who was received by the President of the Republic, Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Prime Minister Recepy Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul also encouraged Turkey to pursue the road to reform. Mr Cox gave a speech on Tuesday before the Grand Turkish Assembly.
