Brussels, 09/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - MEP Gianni Pittella (DS) expresses concern about the Commission's decision whereby some aid received by the low-cost Irish airline company, Ryanair, is incompatible with Community rules. Over and beyond the "technical and legal motivation" for this decision, he states that one should recognise the important role played over recent years by low-cost airlines which, he says in a press release, have the right to freedom of movement within the Union "more tangible". In his view, the Commission's decision creates a "worrying precedent" because the next targets could be Bari and the Italian airline, VolareWeb, British Flybe which touches down in La Rochelle, France, or the Dutch airline Basiquair/Transavia which has Milan on its schedule.
