Penalties for maritime pollution are authorised - in support of creating a European coastguard

Brussels, 14/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament wishes to impose disciplinary action on all those responsible for causing serious maritime pollution either intentionally or through negligence. Approving the report by Dutch Christian Democrat Peter Rex on Tuesday, it amended the proposal of directive to make it even stricter and called for the creation of a European coastguard (codecision, first reading).
