EU protective measures will protect against first case of mad cow disease in the United States, explains Commissioner Byrne

Brussels, 29/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - Following the announcement of the first case of BSE being detected in the United States (in the state of Washington), David Byrne, European Consumer Policy and Health Commissioner, said: "I can confirm that the European Union already has in place a number of protective measures to ensure that bovine material at risk of carrying BSE is not imported into the EU.
