EU sends condolences to Iran following the Bam earthquake and mobilises EUR 2.3 million in emergency aid

Brussels, 29/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Union immediately reacted to the Bam earthquake in south-east Iran on Friday by sending a message of condolence to President Khatami and immediately responding to the call for emergency aid.

EUR 2.5 million in emergency aid was immediately mobilised by the European Commission from ECHO's budget (the EU's Humanitarian Aid Office), whose experts are on the way to the area to carry out needs assessments. The initial aid under the primary...
