Strasbourg, 16/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - In its adoption of the report by Neil McCormick of the Scottish Nationalist Party, the European Parliament has decided to defend Giuseppe Gargani's immunity in a case brought by the Chief Public Prosecutor to the Court of Appeal of Turin, Giancarlo Casseli. In a press article, Mr Gargani criticised the magistrate for having "broadcast his political views and revealed his partiality for all to see". A few days earlier in another newspaper, Mr Casseli had criticised the "Mafia-like practices" of a bill on "legitimate suspicion" and others taken by Mr Gargani's party, Forza Italia. Parliament justifies its position by the fact that this exchange took place as part of the MEP's political activity.
