11/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - MEP Jean-Maurice Dhousse (Belgian Socialist), Pierre Larrouturou (Economic Committee of the French Socialist Party) and Daniel Spoel (from the Civil Society Permanent Forum) handed Gerard Onesta (French Green and vice president to the European Parliament) seven social objectives that they wanted to include in the future constitution. Mr Onesta invited them to present this proposal to President Cox, who will be taking part in the IGC on Friday and Saturday. The five objectives are; jobs for all, which meant an unemployment rate of 5% at most; a society of solidarity, which involves a rate of poverty less than 5%, a roof over one's head, which means a rate of unfit accommodation of less than 3%; equal opportunities, which calls for a level of illiteracy of less than 3% (at the age of ten); solidarity with the people of the South, which means public aid for development that is more than 1% of GDP.
