Commission to exclude small and medium-sized investment firms from Basel II proposal to be presented next summer

Brussels, 14/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - Next summer, the European Commission is expected to present a proposal of directive on "adequacy of own funds", Commissioner Frits Bolkestein said during a conference on Thursday in Brussels. The directive will translate into European law the future international agreement, Basel II, defining the capital required for banks and financial institutions for their lending operations, depending upon an analysis of the risk incurred.
