07/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - Italian Radicals Maurizio Turco and Marco Cappato, MEPs criticised the Italian Minister of Justice Roberto Castelli for attacking the decision on the European Arrest Warrant, which he had, nevertheless, approved on 13 June 2002 and that he now describes as "unconstitutional on a technical level and completely erroneous in substance". The Italian Radicals have always insisted that at the same time as the European arrest warrant is approved, so are "harmonised defence rights at a European level". The MEPs regret that the Italian government had slowed down adoption of the arrest warrant "by hopelessly trying to exclude certain offences from its application (fraud, money laundering, embezzlement and corruption) while being keen to point out the general problem of defence rights".
