The French telecoms equipment group, ALCATEL, is to sell SAFT (turnover EUR 550 million in 2002 with 4000 employed), its subsidiary specialised in batteries, to the European investment company, DOUGHTY HANSON, for the sum of EUR 390 million. DOUGHTY HANSON has made investments of over EUR 17.5 billion since it was created in 1985.
