Luxembourg, 20/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - On 13 October in Luxembourg, the External Relations Council adopted conclusions on Angola. It confirms the EU's readiness to support the process of consolidating democracy and the development of the country, as it undertook to do within the framework of the EC/Angola strategy for 2002-2007 signed with the Government of Angola on 28 January 2003. In this context, the Council mainly encourages the government to: - speed up the constitutional process; - strengthen respect of human rights and the rule of law; - improve the management of public finance; - support economic reform to ensure poverty reduction, economic growth and sustainable development; - increase its efforts and budgetary resources to the health, education and agricultural development sectors; - conclude an agreement with the IMF; - and complete the necessary preparatory work to ensure a successful outcome of the donors' conference on the reconstruction of the country.
