Brussels, 15/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - During the discussion on the general economic situation, Commissioner Pedro Solbes informed the Eurogroup that the rate of growth in the euro zone should reach 0.75% in 2003 (as opposed to 1% according to the latest Commission forecasts). "We are doing away with the word deflation in our vocabulary and software" - such is the key message of discussions by the president of the Eurogroup, Giulio Tremonti. In his view, "it is not logical to speak of deflation given that the quantity of money in circulation is high and that there is nothing allowing us to expect this phenomenon". "Signs of growth" are appearing in the euro zone, added the Italian Minister.
