25/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption of the report by Finnish national Jaakko Laakso (United Left), the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe proposes the creation, with a contribution from the international community, of a fund to assist the voluntary return of Turkish settlers in the northern part of Cyprus. It calls on Turkey and on the "Turkish Cypriot subordinate local administration in northern Cyprus to stop the process of colonisation". The Assembly also adopted the report by Swiss Liberal Dick Marty in which it calls for respect of the fundamental rights of the Greek Cypriot community and the Maronites living in the northern part of the island.
