18/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - The elected European member of the Bavarian CSU, Convention Member Joachim Wuermeling, warned against any hasty judgement about the work of the European Convention. "Applause or cat-calls should be kept for the end of the performance, not for the end of the first Act", he says in a press release. On substance, he welcomes the democratic progress of the text agreed on 13 June, but is concerned about the possibility of further transfers of competence toward Brussels. Mr Wuermeling therefore urges for the introduction, at the IGC, of "effective barriers to all further centralisation" (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.3, on the subject of the declarations by Bavarian Minister Reinhold Bocklet).
