17/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - MEP, Marco Cappato (Lista Bonino) presented an urgent question to the Council of the EU on the subject of the ideas expressed by Umberto Bossi, President of the Lega and Minister in the Berslusconi government, on illegal immigration, published in an interview on 16 June in the Corriere della Sera. Mr Bossi said, "With good means or bad, illegals should be hunted. Only those with a work contract can enter. The others, out. There are times when force should be used…On the second or third warning, boom…the gun will do the talking". The reaction of the Radical MEP, "Given that the principles at the basis of the common European Union immigration and asylum policy, as well as fundamental rights and freedoms in Articles 6 and 7 if the Treaty of the Union, does not the Council consider it necessary to request clarification from the Italian government, particularly in view of the Italian Presidency's tenure of office…on the subject of the affirmations of one of its members on immigration policy?"
