Dinos Vrettos suggests permanent link between COSAC and WEU Assembly

Strasbourg, 12/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - At the plenary of the Assembly of Western European Union's Interparliamentary European Security and Defence Assembly in Strasbourg last week, Vice-President of the Greek parliament and Chairman of COSAC (made up of the European Parliament and national parliament bodies specialising in European affairs), Dino Vrettos said: "There should be a permanent link between the WEU Assembly and COSAC so that we can use our powers in the best possible way to arrive at a correct parliamentary evaluation of European issues, among them those that concern the security and defence of the Union." In a press release, he said COSAC should concentrate on "easing the workload of national parliaments in assessing whether legislative proposals drafted by the European Commission comply with the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality."
