Loans for implementing protection measures against mud slides in Poland

Luxembourg, 11/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Investment Bank (EIB) is going to grant a loan of EUR 50 million to implement protection measures against mud slides in Poland. The promotor behind the project it the Office for the Reparation of Damages Caused by Flooding, which is operating through the intermediary of the central administration of regional and local authroities. The loan will go towards funding investment projects for structural and non-structureal measures for protecting essential infrastructures against mud slides. Although most projects will be carrried out in the Carpathians, those in other regions of the country and which will also deal with the same problem, will be entitled to funding. Work will focus on stabilising measures against mud slides (drainage, anchorage, protection against erosion of dike foundations etc.) and reoprientation of infrastucture. Non-strucrual measures include funding for risk assement planing, the elaboration of mechansism for early warning systems and tools for land conversion.
