Greenhouse gas emissions rose in EU in 2000 and 2001 - Margot Wallström calls on Member States to take more stringent measures

Brussels, 09/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - Rather than falling, greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union have increased for a second year in a row (2000 and 2001). The latest data on greenhouse gas emissions released by the European Environmental Agency are not very encouraging for the EU, which under the Kyoto Protocol is expected to collectively cut its emissions by 8% between 2008 and 2012 in order to bring them below the 1990 reference year level.
