57 million Euros for regional co-operation

Brussels, 05/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has adopted a package of measures to strengthen regional co-operation between the EU and its Mediterranean neighbours in 2003. The various activities planned have been given a budgetary envelope of 57 million Euros, funded under the MED regional programme, and will go to strengthen co-operation and dialogue between the 27 countries of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership in areas such as: - the Middle-East peace process (10 million Euros to support civil society); - training for officials (6 million for the training of 400 experts and setting up training bodies); - the support funds for the Euro-Mediterranean Facility for investment and partnership (FEMIP) (25 million including 6 for Turkey); - the hydrological information system (2 million); - support for the free-trade zone between Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia, under the Agadir process (4 million); - the investment and cultural heritage facilities under the Euromed Heritage III programme (10 million).
