Brussels, 28/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - The President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi, was in Rome on 28 March for meetings with the Italian authorities for preparations for the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, beginning 1 July, indicated the Commission spokesperson Reijo Kemppinen. Romano Prod is expected to meet with Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and the President of the Republic, Carlo Azglio Ciampi (see EUROPE 27 March p 6) in relation to the EP constitutional committee of the EP and the renewed appeal of President Ciampi for a common position by the six founding countries a the 46th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome.
