27/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament's legal commission has adopted (by 17 votes in favour, 3 against and 3 abstentions) a draft decision contained within a report by German Social Democrat Willi Rothley on the status on MEPs, but the vote on the proposed resolution was postponed unti such time as the Bureau comes to an unambiguoug position on reimbursement of MEPs' expenses. The legal commission decided to let the Bureau tackle this delicate subject. Furthermore, the Parliamentairans got behind their rapporteur, accepting a recommendation for indemnity of MEPs (which currently varies greatly from one Member State to another) to be equal to 50% of the base level treatment of a judge from the Court of Justice of the Communities, i.e. around 8,500 euros per month.
