27/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - During a press conference on the eve of the EP vote on Iraq (see other article p 6), President Cox expressed his wish that the Parliament would adopt a resolution reaffirming the central role of the United Nations, that it stresses the urgency of humanitarian aid and that it insists that Turkey abstain from sending troops to the other side of the border. Mr Cox welcomed the "efforts and determination" by the Greek Presidency during the crisis, which could be interpreted as a set back in solidarity that they should have shown within the EU. He also called on Member States to line up behind the banner of a united Europe as they had done during the European Summit of Copenhagen in December 2002.
