Brussels, 25/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - Commission spokesperson Diego de Ojeda indicated on Tuesday that work to implement the Kalingrad agreement concluded between the EU and Russia was continuing, looking for solutions to the "differences of opinion, which persist". According to the spokesperson, these related mainly to criteria for allocating documents facilitating transit (FTD and FRTD). However, "we are convinced that Russia will respect its commitments", declared Diego de Ojeda, acknowledging that "the task is far from easy". During a tripartite meeting (EU, Russia, Lithuania), which took place on Monday, the Commission "took note" of Russia's requests, added Mr de Ojeda. It is worth noting that at the EU/Russia Summit last November, both sides had signed an agreement regulating transit between the Kalingrad enclave and the rest of the Russian territory via Lithuania (see Europe of 13 November, p;8). Several trilateral meetings have already taken place in March to enable the system to be implemented as planned on 1 July 2003.
